<div dir="rtl" style="text-align: right;" trbidi="on"> <br /><div class="news-container-left-side"> <div class="ImgArticle"> <b><img alt="" class="news-section-img" height="481" id="article_img" src="http://images.alarabiya.net/8e/e6/436x328_90178_265572.jpg" title="" width="640" /> </b></div><div class="ImgArticle"><b> أثبتت دراسة أمريكية حديثة أن الإفراط في تناول الأطعمة المطهية بالقلي يزيد من فرص الإصابة بسرطان البروستاتا. وقد أظهرت الدراسة أن سرطان البروستاتا يهدد شخص من كل 6 أشخاص بأمريكا، حيث يتم تشخيص ما يقرب من ربع مليون حالة بالمرض كل عام. </b><b><br />وبالرغم من أن كثيراً من تلك الحالات تتعايش مع المرض دون الحاجة لعلاج عنيف فإن هناك الكثير من حالات الإصابة من النوع العنيف من المرض.</b><b><br />وقد اكتشفت دراسة حديثة أجراها مركز بحوث السرطان بسياتل أن تناول أطعمة مقلية بشدة بشكل منتظم يرتبط بزيادة مخاطر الإصابة بسرطان البروستاتا خاصة الأنواع العنيفة منه.</b><b><br />وقد أوضحت دراسات سابقة أن طرق الطهي التي تعتمد على حرارة عالية تزيد من مخاطر الإصابة بأنواع مختلفة من الأمراض السرطانية في الجهاز الهضمي. إلا أن هذه الدراسة هي الأولى التي تختبر كيف أن تناول أطعمة مقلية يزيد من مخاطر الإصابة بسرطان البروستاتا.</b><b><br />في هذه الدراسة التي نشرت مؤخراً بجريدة البروستاتا, قام الباحثون بتحليل بيانات دراستين سابقتين اشتملتا على ما يقرب من 1549 مريضاً بالبروستاتا و 1492 شخصاً سليماً. </b><b><br />وقد أجرى الباحثون قائمة استقصاء لمعرفة مقدار تناول أفراد العينة لبعض الأطعمة مثل البطاطس المقلية والفراخ المشوية والسمك المشوي والكعك المحلي (الدونت). كما تم تقييم تكرار تناول الأطعمة المقلية.</b><b><br />وقد وجد الباحثون أن الرجال الذين يتناولون واحدا أو أكثر من هذه الأطعمة على الأقل مرة أسبوعياً لديهم مخاطر متزايدة للإصابة بسرطان البروستاتا، وذلك بنسبة تتراوح بين 30 إلى 37%.</b><b><br />وقالت كاتبة الدراسة د.جانيت ستانفورد "إن الصلة بين سرطان البروستاتا والأطعمة المقلية بشدة يبدو أنها تقتصر على أعلى تناول لهذه الأطعمة، أي أكثر من مرة بالأسبوع, وهو الأمر الذي يجعلنا نخلص لحقيقة أن التناول المنتظم لأطعمة مقلية يشير إلى مخاطر معينة للإصابة بسرطان البروستاتا".</b><b><br />وقد خلص الباحثون إلى أن تناول أطعمة مقلية يزيد من مخاطر تكون عناصر متسرطنة تنتهي بإصابة الشخص بسرطان البروستاتا.</b></div></div></div>

littleBits hands-on: LEGO blocks for future electrical engineers

The property has grown quite a bit in the past few years. For one, it's no longer a "project" but an actual shipping product. And in the last year founder Ayah Bdeir has turned it from a great concept into an actual company with serious investors. For those of you unfamiliar with littleBits, the goal is to do for electronics what LEGO did for structural engineering. The small color coded "blocks" snap together with magnets allowing even a novice to create a functioning circuit in seconds. The magnets will only connect in one orientation, preventing you from pushing current through a component in the wrong direction and ruining it. Ayah's inspiration is not just LEGO, but object oriented programing languages that simplify building code, allowing developers to focus on the more creative aspects of software making. By doing some of the heavy logical lifting for you, littleBits hopes that potential electrical engineers and prototypers can focus on the goal rather than the minutia of laying out a breadboard or soldering resistors in place.</div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">The latest version of the platform, v0.3, debuted just a couple of months ago and not only brings new pieces to the littleBits universe, but also adds legs to the blocks for improved stability when piecing together your projects. Currently there are four kits available: the three piece Teaser kit for $29, the seven piece Holiday kit for $49, the 10 piece Starter kit for $89 and the 14 piece Extended kit for $149. (You can also buy individual Bits for between $10 and $35.) If you're in need of inspiration there are a number of projects for you peruse on the site and the company is even considering packaging them up as pre-planned kits. Though, unlike other electronics project bundles (such as the ubiquitous BrushBot), the magnetic pieces can easily be disassembled and re-purposed if you tire of your creation. While the concept has its roots in brands like Snap Circuits, littleBits definitely provides more freedom than those single purpose offerings. Lumio desk lamp takes light reading literally (video)

Build a lamp, of course. During a recent visit to the City by the Bay, we popped into the TechShop hackerspace and were introduced to Max Gunawan, the designer behind Lumio (not to be confused with a certain smartphone line of similar name). The product, developed in that very space, offers up a cool take on the desktop lamp, fitting it into a wooden, old timey-looking book form. Open it up and the pages fan out into what looks like a paper lantern.</div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">It's an LED light powered by a lithium ion battery that'll give you around eight hours on a charge. Due to the foldable nature of the Lumio, the device is portable and can be opened into a number of configurations, to suit your needs. Gunawan is a couple of days away from launching a Kickstarter page for the project, in hopes of getting together $60,000. Microsoft sells out of 128GB Surface Pro models online and in some stores

The 128GB Surface Pro has sold out at Microsoft's US online store, and checks suggest a lack of stock at both the company's retail stores as well as Best Buy and Staples. Canada is facing similar shortages at Best Buy and Future Shop. Not surprisingly, storage worries (since partly alleviated) have left the 64GB tablet as the only one in consistent supply, and we suspect that the 128GB model in Microsoft's Canadian store won't last for much longer. We'd be cautious before declaring the Surface Pro a runaway hit, however -- there's no word on how many units each store had, and Microsoft has refrained from reporting Surface sale numbers to date. Still, the early uptake is good news for Microsoft's first foray into designing an x86 PC, and it shows that many early adopters aren't hung up on the price.<br /> </div></div>

We'll get a better balance in our research now that NASA and Lockheed Martin have finished constructing the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution probe, or MAVEN. The robot craft will learn how quickly the Martian atmosphere is escaping into space and give us a better idea of how the planet's arid landscape came to be. Lockheed Martin still needs to conduct space simulation tests and ship MAVEN to the Kennedy Space Center, but the ship should launch in November and deliver results roughly a year later; that's a quick turnaround for a probe that could answer riddles spanning millions of years.</div><div dir="ltr" id="pr_box_button" style="text-align: left;">Hide Press Release</div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"> <em><strong>NASA's MAVEN Mission Completes Assembly, Begins Environmental Testing</strong></em></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"> <em>NASA's Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) spacecraft is assembled and is undergoing environmental testing at Lockheed Martin Space Systems facilities, near Denver, Colo. MAVEN is the next mission to Mars and will be the first mission devoted to understanding the Martian upper atmosphere.</em></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"> <em>During the environmental testing phase, the orbiter will undergo a variety of rigorous tests that simulate the extreme temperatures, vacuum and vibration the spacecraft will experience during the course of its mission. Currently, the spacecraft is in the company's Reverberant Acoustic Laboratory being prepared to undergo acoustics testing that simulates the maximum sound and vibration levels the spacecraft will experience during launch.</em></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"> <em>Following the acoustics test, MAVEN will be subjected to a barrage of additional tests, including: separation/deployment shock, vibration, electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility and magnetics testing. The phase concludes with a thermal vacuum test where the spacecraft and its instruments are exposed to the vacuum and extreme hot and cold temperatures it will face in space.</em></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"> <em>"The assembly and integration of MAVEN has gone very smoothly and we're excited to test our work over the next six months," said Guy Beutelschies, MAVEN program manager at Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. "Environmental testing is a crucial set of activities designed to ensure the spacecraft can operate in the extreme conditions of space."</em></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"> <em>"I'm very pleased with how our team has designed and built the spacecraft and science instruments that will make our measurements," said Bruce Jakosky, MAVEN principal investigator from the University of Colorado at Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics. "We've got an exciting science mission planned, and the environmental testing now is what will ensure that we are ready for launch and for the mission."</em></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"> <em>MAVEN is scheduled to ship from Lockheed Martin's facility to NASA's Kennedy Space Center in early August, where it will undergo final preparations for launch.</em></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"> <em>MAVEN, scheduled to launch in November 2013, is a robotic exploration mission to understand the role that loss of atmospheric gas to space played in changing the Martian climate through time. It will investigate how much of the Martian atmosphere has been lost over time by measuring the current rate of escape to space and gathering enough information about the relevant processes to extrapolate backward in time.</em></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"> <em>"This phase of the program is particularly important in that it will provide us with a good assessment of the MAVEN system's capabilities under the simulated extremes of the space environment," said David Mitchell, MAVEN project manager at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. "Of significance, the spacecraft is entering system level test right on schedule, while maintaining robust cost and schedule reserves to deal with the technical or programmatic surprises that could occur during test or in the run to launch. Tracking on plan is critically important to being ready for launch later this year and the science that MAVEN will deliver one year later."</em></div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"> <em>MAVEN's principal investigator is based at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics. The university will provide science operations, science instruments and lead Education/Public Outreach. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center manages the project and provides two of the science instruments for the mission. Lockheed Martin of Littleton, Colo., built the spacecraft and is responsible for mission operations. The University of California at Berkeley Space Sciences Laboratory provides science instruments for the mission. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., provides navigation support, the Deep Space Network and the Electra telecommunications relay hardware and operations.</em></div></div>
