Alongside the big four, we now have Ubuntu, Firefox OS and the latest version of Tizen all elbowing each other for room. Tizen has one particularly strong backer, Samsung, who built the reference device we play with in the video after the break, and whereas Firefox OS is destined only for the low-end, Tizen seems far more ambitious -- at least judging from the 720p resolution of this developer handset. Since the introduction of version 2.0, the OS is designed to run both native and HTML5 apps, or apps which mix the two layers -- such as the Vimeo app you'll see in the video, which has a web-based interface but accesses the hardware for the purpose of video acceleration.</div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Huge swathes of the interface are remarkable only by their familiarity: a home screen with a grid of apps; a single navigation button to take you back to this screen or alternatively to a multi-tasking screen by way of a long press; and a top-to-bottom pull-down for notifications and quick access to settings. It's basic, but it represents pretty much what all these new operating systems are supposed to be: ways of getting functionality that is at least close to Android but without all the licensing costs associated with running Google services. Beyond that, however, Tizen at least seems capable of delivering smartphone fundamentals like a fast camera (with burst mode, incidentally). Razer Edge pre-orders begin March 1st, price starts at $999

Andy Rubin confirms 'no plans' for Google retail stores

While there are some legitimate Google outposts to be found in stores, the Android chief has confirmed to journalists today that -- as far as he's concerned -- there's no need to explore bricks and mortar stores of their own. Rubin was adamant that there are no plans at this time -- and he's in a good position to know. The reason, however, isn't to do with the ageing model of retail, or a well pinned map of consumer behaviour patterns, with Rubin merely stating that he didn't think the Nexus line is quite at the stage that would warrant a store of its own, the same is true of it home-grown Chromebook devices. That's ok though, if you just gotta have that Nexus right <em>now</em>, there are still some options to explore.<br /> </div></div>

The business unceremoniously collapsed back in 2009 after allegedly suffering a "major fraud" that led it to fire all of its employees. Fortunately, CEO Jim Morrison is back with a new mobile device that, he claims, runs full-fat Windows 8 in the same way that Ubuntu for Android will behave. The i-mate Intelegent is a 4.7-inch handset running the desktop OS on a Clover Trail CPU with 2GB RAM and 64GB storage. The secret, however, is that the $750 handset will slot into a Webtop-esque desktop dock to become your work machine when you get into the office. Morrison has said that there's a factory in California ready to produce 10,000 units a week, and told the <em>Seattle Times </em>that he'd be showing off the device here at MWC. Atti is Korean for buddy or friend and judging by how he (or she?) and Brad got along we'd suggest robo is aptly named. Using a phone snapped into the top of the head, the robot reacts to your interaction with it via camera and a wand attachment that sits in Atti's hand while not in use. Educational games are another focus here using Qualcomm's Vuforia tech allowing youngsters to point the handset at printed words and get tips on pronunciation, multimedia examples and the like.</div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Atti was developed with the help of the Utah State University to help develop the edutainment content and expects to see this hit retail in overseas markets sometime in the first half of the year. Unfortunately we didn't have any preschoolers on hand so we used our own Brad Molen to put Atti through its paces. The end result? Brad nails a high score and gets a star. That would be a rather silly notion for any company, of course, and naturally the browser is bumping up its efforts by making the jump to WebKit. This move will make Opera even more tempting for Android (phone and tablet) users who would never have given the browser even a sideways glance previously. The newer, fancier Opera throws in a few extra features. First, there's a launch page called speed dial that looks an awful lot like what we've seen in older versions; you can customize a bunch of shortcuts and links based on your overall usage and personal preferences, and toss all of them in folders. There's also an off-road mode, which essentially gives you the option to switch over to Opera Mini for extra data compression for those times you need it -- this obviously comes in handy when you're reaching your data threshold or just in a low-reception area. Lastly, HTML5 support is built in, as we would come to expect with a new browser these days.</div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;"> Though we were originally told in January that we could expect Android and iOS versions of the browser sometime this month, representatives at the company's booth at MWC noted that what we're seeing is actually a pre-beta version and the final product is "coming soon" with no specific timetable given. This doesn't surprise us, as the demonstration had its fair share of bugs, but we will reserve judgment until we see it in its final form. As we patiently wait for the browser to make its public appearance, you can pine for it by drooling over the images in our gallery below.</div></div>

So there's very little we haven't seen here. And yet, we were inclined to take a look at Indigo, a new personal assistant for Android and Windows Phone 8 that launched yesterday, and will be available as a free download in the coming weeks. As you'd expect, then, you can expect answers to questions like "What's the weather like in Prague?" (To be fair, this is true of Siri, too.) Also like other assistants, you can ask follow-up questions like "Find me a movie theater there" and Indigo will know you meant Prague because that's what you were just asking about. We also noticed that it completes searches successfully even if you misspell a word ("find mean" instead of "find me," for example).</div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Some other similarities to existing services: it sources data from places like Yelp and Wolfram Alpha, and can mine your email and calendar appointments, as well as maps and search engines. In addition to voice input, it responds to text queries, which you can't do on Siri, and can only do for search with Google Now. As we found in the noisy Fira Gran Via convention center, it's a useful feature when your surroundings have the potential to drown out voice searches.</div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">What makes Indigo especially unique (aside from the fact that it's WP8-compatible) is that it works across different platforms and different devices. Granted, Nuance is working on something similar, but as of last month it was still in the very early stages, while Indigo is on the cusp of becoming available. In any case, what all this means is that because search is tied to a profile stored in the cloud (as opposed to a particular device), you can start a search thread on your phone and pick it up on a tablet.</div><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Your personal settings will also follow you from one device to another, even if you use a mix of Android and Windows Phone. Oh, and last thing: you can save favorite searches -- not a bad thing if you begin each day asking about the weather. Again, the app will be available to download for free within the next two weeks or so. In the case of Android, specifically, you'll need Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean, according to the Indigo website, linked at the bottom of this post. MIT algorithms teach robot arms to think outside of the box (video)

Two MIT students, Jennifer Barry and Annie Holladay, have developed fresh algorithms that could help robot arms improvise. Barry's method tells the robot about an object's nature, focusing its attention on the most effective interactions -- sliding a plate until it's more easily picked up, for example. Holladay, meanwhile, turns collision detection on its head to funnel an object into place, such as balancing a delicate object with a free arm before setting that object down. Although the existing code for either approach currently requires plugging in existing data, their creators ultimately want more flexible code that determines qualities on the spot and reacts accordingly. Rather than leave developers to find the content themselves, Telmap has struck a deal to get mapping information from TomTom. Navigation apps built around Telmap's work will soon have access both to TomTom's base maps as well as 3D maps, junctions, points of interest and voice mapping. While there's no mention of exactly when TomTom data will show up, the union is characterized as a "long-term partnership" -- we'd expect TomTom routing to quickly become a mainstay of Telmap's platforms (and potentially Intel's) in the near future.</div></div>

<div dir="rtl" style="text-align: right;" trbidi="on"><b> </b><br /><div class="ImgArticle" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <b><img alt="" class="news-section-img" height="328" id="article_img" src="http://images.alarabiya.net/0c/c2/436x328_15015_268435.jpg" title="" width="436 " /></b> </div><br /><b>خلصت دراسة إلى أن التطوّع مفيد للقلب، حتى لو لم يكن المرء متقدماً في السن، وقد شملت الدراسة 106 مراهقين كنديين، ونشرت نتائجها، الاثنين، في مجلة "جورنال أوف ذي أميريكن ميديكل أسوسييشن".</b><b><br />وهدفت تلك الدراسة التي أعدها باحثون من جامعة كولومبيا البريطانية في فانكوفر بغرب كندا، إلى معرفة إذا كان التطوع يؤثر على صحة المراهقين البدنية. وأكدت هانا شراير القائمة على هذه الدراسة أنه تبين أن فعل الخير يحسن القلب والأوعية الدموية.</b><b><br />وكانت دراسات سابقة قد أظهرت أن بعض العوامل النفسية الاجتماعية، من قبيل التوتر والإحباط والرفاه الشخصي، تؤثر على أمراض القلب والاوعية الدموية التي تعتبر من الاسباب الرئيسية للوفيات في أمريكا الشمالية.</b><b><br />وفي إطار هذه الدراسة، قام الباحثون بقياس مؤشر كتلة الجسم ونسبة الكولسترول ووتيرة الاصابة بالأمراض عند 53 طالباً من فانكوفر كانوا يخصصون ساعة من وقتهم في الاسبوع لأعمال خيرية في محيطهم. وقارن الباحثون هذه النتائج بتلك التي جمعوها من 53 طالباً آخر لا يتطوعون عادة.</b><b><br />فتبين بعد 10 أسابيع أن فاعلي الخير يتمتعون بنسب أقل من الكولسترول والالتهابات والشحم.</b><b><br />وأوضحت هانا شراير أن العلامات الأولى لأمراض القلب والأوعية الدموية تظهر في سن المراهقة، ما يفسر الفئة العمرية التي استندت إليها الدراسة.</b></div>
